Objectives

  • Identify the basic components and functions of operating systems.

  • Work with operating systems; install and configure and optimize and maintain Microsoft Windows.

Who can join CompTIA a+ certification?

This course is mainly designed for individuals who are interested in entry-level jobs with basic computer knowledge and skills. This course is suitable for students who want to obtain CompTIA A+ certification and be prepared for the CompTIA A+ Core 1 (220-1101) Certification Exam and the CompTIA A+ Core 2 (220-1102) Certification exam.

Prerequisites

The CompTIA A+ certification exam is projected for IT professionals who have a hands-on experience proportionate to 500 hours. An individual has to pass two exams.

Exam Format

A candidate must sit for and pass two examinations in order to obtain CompTIA A+ certification.

  • CompTIA A+ Core 1 (220-1101). This examination is about hardware (PC and mobile device) along with troubleshooting with networking and network connectivity issues.
  • CompTIA A+ Core 2 (220-1102). This examination includes installing and configuring of the OS with Windows, iOS, Android, Apple OS X, and Linux. This also covers fundamentals and operational procedures with cloud computing and system security.

The types of questions consist of multiple-choice questions (the answer of which could be single or multiple), drag and drop, and performance-based. Each examination consists of maximum of 90 questions with a time limitation of 90 minutes. 

The CompTIA A+ certification consists of two exams, each with its own passing score on a scale of 900:

  • CompTIA A+ Core 1 (220-1101): Minimum of 675 points to pass.
  • CompTIA A+ Core 2 (220-1102): Minimum of 700 points to pass.

While it uses a different scale, this roughly translates to a 72% passing rate for Core 1 and a 78% passing rate for Core 2.

This module covers 15% of A+ Core 1 (220-1101) exam. We cover mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. You will learn about their hardware components, connectivity options (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular), and synchronization methods. You will also explore security measures specific to mobile devices and how to troubleshoot common mobile device issues.

This module covers 20% of A+ Core 1 (220-1101) exam. It focuses on networking concepts and technologies. You will learn about network protocols, topologies, and the TCP/IP suite. You will study network devices such as routers, switches, and access points, as well as their configuration and troubleshooting. You will also gain knowledge about IP addressing and network troubleshooting techniques.

This module covers 25% of A+ Core 1 (220-1101) exam. In this module, you will learn about computer hardware components and their functionalities. You will study topics such as motherboards, CPUs, RAM, power supplies, storage devices, and peripherals. You will also explore different types of custom PC configurations and their specifications.

This module covers 11% of A+ Core 1 (220-1101) exam. In this module, students will learn to create multiple virtual machines from a single machine (virtualization) and access IT resources over the internet (cloud computing). They'll explore benefits and types of cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

This module covers 29% of A+ Core 1 (220-1101) exam. In this module students are taught how to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network issues. By the end of this module, they can identify and solve common problems in both hardware and networks.

This module covers 31% of A+ Core 2 (220-1102) exam. In this module, you will study different operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. You will learn about the installation and configuration of these operating systems, including partitioning drives, driver installation, and system settings. You will also gain knowledge of command-line tools and utilities, file system management, and permissions.

This module covers 25% of A+ Core 2 (220-1102) exam. This module focuses on computer security measures and best practices. You will learn about physical security, network security concepts (firewalls, VPNs), common threats and vulnerabilities, and security procedures. You will explore methods for securing computer systems and data, as well as techniques for preventing and addressing security incidents.

This module covers 22% of A+ Core 2 (220-1102) exam. In this module we will discuss troubleshooting software-related issues. You will learn how to identify and resolve common software errors and error codes. You will also study system recovery and backup methods to ensure data protection. Additionally, you will gain practical skills in troubleshooting software problems and resolving them effectively.
 

This module covers 22% of A+ Core 2 (220-1102) exam. This module focuses on professional and operational procedures in the IT field. You will learn about IT documentation and procedures, including creating and maintaining documentation for hardware and software configurations. You will also study professionalism, effective communication, safety procedures, and environmental controls.
